Does Prepass Really Speed Up The Truck Inspection Process? - Articles Surfing

The whole truck inspection process can eat up way too much time which you would rather devote to growing your business. The usual process entails for your truck to be pulled in at some designated ports for authorities to weigh it in. That whole procedure can already spell a great hassle for you but things can get a lot slower than this. There are also other trucks being weighed in at ports so before you can actually take your lengthy turn, you have to wait up after long queues first.

But nowadays, you no longer have to go through such a lengthy ordeal just to finish your turn in the truck weigh in process. The advent of the Prepass program has made things tons better than how it was before. Because the program makes use of an electronic program, the entire weigh in process is being cut back greatly and the process becomes almost and virtually effortless already. As a result, you do not just save up on time alone but you also save up on gas because you no longer have to endure long queues and weigh in processes with the gas turned on.

What happens with the Prepass system is that the cab's electronic signal already sends a signal to activate the weigh in process. This happens when the semi truck is still approximately half a mile from the said port area. Because the records become transmitted through signals, the truck and its weight is immediately transferred to the port area's system. All of this happens and are accomplished within seconds so when the truck finally reaches the port, a green signal will immediately emerge and signal that the driver is free from the weigh in responsibility.

However, if it happens that some problems would occur a red light will be seen instead of the green one. When it happens the truck would have to stop for a few moments as the glitch gets fixed. Sometimes, this happens when the system was not able to read the details well or some inevitable error happened. It can also be because the truck did not meet the required weigh in for it to qualify to pass through. Moreover, some states would still require trucks to stop upon reaching the port even after they have gone through some Prepass. So make sure that you are kept updated with the different specifications of states regarding these weigh in regulations.

Although the Prepass is such a great feature and a very helpful tool in saving up on trucking time and effort, it is still relatively issued only on some truckers. It first entails a lot of process before it is granted. Among the main points to be considered are the trucker's length of time being together with the CDL in accordance to the driving record of the person and the entire trucking company is being reviewed although the person is who drives is the owner and the proprietor himself. If in case the trucking in review has been seen with a lot of fishy records, Prepass will reserve the right to refuse to give an authorization on the said company.
