Article Surfing ArchiveLighting For Every Room - Articles SurfingLighting is one of the most important aspects of home d'cor and interior design. Due to the fact that lighting creates a mood and conveys feelings of warmth and openness it is essential to pay close attention to the lighting fixtures that you select. There is no doubt that the lighting you choose will complete your room, and it doesn't matter which room you are decorating. From kitchens and bathrooms to dining rooms and bedrooms, lighting is essential to creating the look that you want and ensuring that your room's ambience is expressed. Different rooms require different lights to create the atmosphere that you prefer. Natural lighting consists of light that comes through windows and doors but is also readily available through skylights. However, natural lighting may not always be the best choice. Depending upon where you live, how much sunlight a room receives, and the overall climate natural sunlight may not provide a room with the intensity or illumination that you require. Choosing your lighting fixtures carefully can make certain that you maximize natural lighting while ensuring that you have the light required to be practical and functional as well as decorative. In addition to the natural lighting that your room will receive, you can also choose from ambient, task, and accent lighting. Ambient lighting consists of light that illuminates an entire room. This type of lighting is practical and functional, however you may find that it works best for your decorating needs if you have some sort of control over the amount of brightness or illumination that is generated. It's best to choose ambient lighting that provides you with some level of control, such as with a dimmer, to ensure that the room is not continually at a high level of brightness. Track lighting is a common example of ambient light. By using light creatively you can add depth to a room, showcase specific pieces, and even make a room or wall appear larger. Carefully planning a room before decorating is the best way to ensure that you capture all of the elements that you want to feature in a room. However, not only is lighting used for interior decorating and design purposes, it is also practical and functional. Take for instance task lighting. Task lighting is using particular light fixtures for certain jobs or tasks. It is imperative to ensure that the task lighting that you select will provide a low level of glare, will be easy on the eyes, and promote optimum vision for the job at hand. Task lighting not only improves the ease of viewing, but also enhances contrast. This means that if you are working on a computer, reading a paper, or performing a task that involves small or minute details that the contrast level will be strong enough that the object you are looking at is clearly defined. If the light source contains glare, your eyes will blur and you will lose focus. The key in choosing task lighting is in placement. It is important to make certain that the task light is either overhead, or directly overlooking the task, even if it is off to the side of the project. Ceiling lights, floor lamps, and spotlights may all serve as task lighting options. Accent lighting is similar to task lighting in the sense that it is used to direct light in a specific location. However, accent lighting is generally much brighter than ambient lighting and is used to direct lighting, or to highlight a particular piece. By understanding the various types of lighting options available and using them creatively with your home d'cor, you can rest assured that your room will display the customized ambience that you prefer.
