The top thing most Internet marketers need is traffic, any kind of traffic. Think about your website as a shop in real life, except that its hidden. How do you expect people to find your site? By your promotion of course, which leads to traffic. Without traffic how would you make any sales at all? It doesn't matter how nice or useful your website is. You could have the best content and graphics in the world, but without a reasonable amount of traffic you will not be able to succeed.

Showing up on the first page of results in the major search engines can bring you tens of thousands of organic visitors per month.Look up sites that relate to the theme of your website. Email them and ask them kindly if they would like to do a link exchange with you. In the email you can provide them a link to the page that you are displaying their link on. Now the decision is up to them. If they do not wish to do an exchange with you, take their link off of your site.

2. Write many articles. This is a good technique that does more than just bring traffic to you. It sets you up to show your expertise and build trust in your prospects' minds. This is extremely important. People have to trust you if they are going to buy your product. Nobody will buy from you if they don't first feel comfortable with you. Articles are a great way to "break the ice". Here is what to do. Hand write a series of articles relating to your market niche. Distribute two articles per week to major article and ezine collectors. At the bottom of the article you are allowed to have a resource box. You can include a small amount of information about your website and a link to your homepage. If people like the information you provide them, they may click the link and visit your site. This is why it's important to give your potential visitors useful, high quality information. People will probably only visit your website if you give them something of value first.

3. Use Pay Per Click advertising. Although PPC (Pay Per Click) advertising costs funds, it can be a major way to drive highly targeted traffic to your site. If you select the right keywords and make intelligent choices it can have a decent return on investment. Overture and Google Adwords are the two largest PPC companies. However Yahoo and MSN also offer pay per click advertising as well. To succeed with PPC you need to be armed with a fair amount of knowledge, the will to learn and succeed, and some funds. I suggest you invest in an ebook on the subject before embarking on a campaign.

While any one of the traffic generation tactics above can make a difference, I suggest using all of them combined. This will give you a great amount of traffic in the shortest amount of time. The more effort you put into the methods provided in this article the better they will work for you.
