There are several different things that can cause you to snore, and it's imperative to know what the likely culprit is before you try any cures. One of the more common things a doctor will tell you do to if you snore is to lose weight. Excess fat around your throat can put pressure on your breathing passages, causing that rumbling snoring sound. If weight isn't an issue and you're a smoker, you might have to kick your habit in order to sleep. When you quit smoking, you can stop your snoring in a matter of weeks. Smoking weakens your throat and can cause clogs in it. A clog free throat is a quiet throat, or that's what much internet research has told me. If you don't smoke and don't need to lose weight, you may just need to move your tongue around. Your tongue can create a blockage between your mouth and your throat, and this is one of the easiest and quickest fixes to the problem. Instead of having to run miles on the treadmills or quit one of your favorite vices, all you have to do is roll over to your side. This simple solution works well for many people, but for those who have a seriously problematic tongue it may not be enough. If you've tried all three of the things outlined above and still need a solution to stop your snoring, you may have to see your dentist. He or she can create a specially made mandibular advancement splint that will advance your lower jaw a bit while pulling your tongue forward. It sounds uncomfortable, but isn't too bad. This is one of the more expensive ways to stop your snoring, as one of these devices can cost upwards of $3,000.
