Article Surfing ArchiveAre You Suffering From Rosacea? - Articles SurfingMost individuals have a fairly good understanding of most common skin afflictions however Rosacea is still unknown by a large percentage of people. This is one the main problems in treating this common and chronic skin disorder; many individuals fail to recognize the signs and symptoms and therefore do not seek the help of a dermatologist. Rosacea is a chronic eruption that affects millions of individuals generally between the ages of thirty and sixty however this is not to say to children and young adults can not develop this skin disorder. Women are more likely to be affected by Rosacea however men seem to suffer more severely. As well Rosacea is more common among fair skinned individuals (common in persons with Northern European ancestry) and/or those who tend to blush or flush easily. Rosacea is usually localized to the middle of the face (nose, cheeks, around the eyes, forehead, chin) although it can also directly affect the eyes and be seen on the neck, chest, back, scalp or ears. Common Signs and Symptoms The signs and symptoms of Rosacea may vary for each individual however there are common tell tale signs. 1. Redness and/or swelling of the facial skin. This can begin as a tendency to blush or flush easily and/or frequently but tends to become a persistent symptom over time. 2. Visible blood vessels can also develop as the condition progresses and are usually visible in the center of the face but again surrounding areas such as the cheeks, chin, forehead, and nose may also be affected. 3. Eye problems are experienced by approximately 50% of those individuals who suffer with Rosacea. Burning and/or itching of the eyes is common therefore bloodshot or watering eyes may be a constant issue. Individuals with Rosacea can also suffer from sties or cysts. 4. Many people experience increasingly dry facial skin. 5. Small vascular malformations of the skin may develop as Rosacea progresses and eventually the sebaceous glands of the nose swell and produce deformities known as Rhinohyma. 6. Papules and pustules often appear on the red background. These are small red bumps that often contain pus. These are not the same as white heads or black heads however it is one of the reasons that Rosacea is often confused with adult acne. 7. Facial skin sensitivity that is often experienced as a burning, stinging or itching. Rosacea is a skin disorder that can have lasting effects including emotional and psychological. For many individuals the social ramifications whether real or perceived are worse than the physical symptoms. Therefore it is important to realize that although the causes are not completely understood treatments are available that make it possible to control Rosacea. Simply lifestyle changes may also have a profound effect on outbreaks and controlling symptoms. If you suspect or are unsure if you have Rosacea then it is important to contact your doctor or a dermatologist as early detection and diagnosis is key in the treatment and possible regression of this disorder. Rosacea as a rule does not clear up if left untreated instead it will continue to progress making future treatment more difficult.
