Pallet Jack Scales: Built-In Versus Stand-Alone Versions - Articles SurfingWhen dealing with loads on a pallet it can be hard to get an accurate weight of the loads. Sometimes you will have a weight limit of how much you can place in the area where you are placing the pallets. Pallet jack scales come in handy in moments like these. After all, when dealing with weight limits you need to know exactly what the load combined with the pallet weighs. There are several types of equipment on the market and each has its own benefits. Built-In Scales You do not have to have an electric pallet jack for you to have a built in scale. There are manual pallet jacks that are scale equipped. Therefore when dealing with surfaces where it would not be suitable for an electric jack, you can still have the benefits of a jack that is equipped with a built in scale. The benefit is being able to automatically weigh the pallet and load as soon as the pallet is picked up on the pallet jack. Since the scale is built in, you do not need to purchase additional equipment. This type is appropriate for areas where an additional electrical outlet is not possible or there is no space available for a stand-alone scale. One the other hand, you do need to purchase batteries. These scales run off batteries that will need to be kept fully charged to operate properly. Stand-Alone Scales For those that wish to have stand-alone scales, they are available for weight pallets as well. There are a few downsides with these types of pallet jack scales though. One is that you will have to subtract the weight of the pallet jack from the total weight to get an accurate weight. The other disadvantage is that if you do not wish to have to subtract the jack's weight then you will need to unload the pallet off the jack onto the scale and then reload the pallet after weighing. In addition, these stand-alone scales do take up space. While you can get one that is fairly compact in size, you will still need to make sure that you have the additional space to accommodate one. The benefit is that most of these types of scales are electrical and you do not have to worry with replacing batteries. With not having to replace batteries, you do not have to be concerned about them being low when you need the scale at that moment. Benefits And Disadvantages Both scale types are an asset to a company since they both allow for the pallet to be weighed with the load all at once. Time is not spent having to weigh everything individually to know the weight of the load. This time saved can increase a company's productivity and thus increase its profits. Compare the costs and benefits of both types of pallet jack scales against your needs to help you to determine which one is right for you and your business.
