Fall And Winter Landscape Tips And Suggestions - Articles Surfing

Landscaping Tip for the Fall Season ' Pruning Your Trees

In general people prune too much. It is true that some trees require more pruning than others. For example, Live Oaks require more regular pruning than any other tree, where as Burr Oak and Chinese Pistachio require almost no pruning.

A good rule of thumb for trimming trees is to try to copy Mother Nature's pruning techniques. Pruning a tree into an artificial shape is costly and looks unnatural and is usually detrimental to the health of the tree.

Five 'Must Do's' to protect your Landscape from the Chill of Winter.

If you are one of the thousands that have had your landscape and gardens damaged by the chill of winter here is a 'Must Do' list you to consider.

1. Treat Your Lawns with pre-emergent now-

To help your grass come back green and healthy, you should apply pre-emergent, a chemical that will keep your seeds from sprouting.

2. Winter Wrap Palm Trees-

Wrap your Palm trees with Burlap making sure to cover the prawns.

3. Check Sprinkler System Censors-

Rain-free Sensors on irrigation system when the temperature drops below 37 degrees. This is very important as water will freeze and ice could be dangerous. It is also wasteful to water during freezing temperatures. 4. Move all tropical plants inside and Drain Fountains- protect your tropical plants from winter's chill by bringing them indoors and watering them on a regular basis. Drain fountains and wash them as freezing temperatures could lead to cracking.

5. Protect you Pansies-

If temperatures are expected to drop into the 20's, make sure to water prior to the freeze
as will protect the plant roots from freezing.

If you follow these simple steps each fall and winter you can look forward to enjoying beautiful trees, lawn and plants when spring arrives.
