7 Steps To Fresher And Healthier Indoors Air - Articles Surfing

With the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimating that most people spend between 60 and 90 percent of their time indoors, the need for fresh, clean air is very clear. Understanding the need and meeting it, however, can be two very different things. Fortunately, there are many simple things people can do to enjoy fresher and healthier air inside their homes.

The seven steps anyone can put into action to help improve indoor air quality are:

Change air filters regularly. While many air filters are rated for three-month use, inspect them periodically for build up. In some homes, filters require replacement every two weeks. A simple replacement filter that costs under $5 can very much help improve air quality. When this is coupled with the regular air duct cleaning, the outcome can be quite beneficial.

Air duct cleaning. Scheduling air duct cleaning at least once every three to five years can help keep ducts free of built up moisture, dirt and dust. When these things are left to fester in a duct system, bacteria and fungus can grow. The result can be the escape of tiny pollutants into the air. Air duct cleaning services also help homeowners enjoy a better efficiency level with their central heat and air units, which can save money.

Chimney cleaning. Chimney cleaning can help ensure a better quality of air within a home. Chimneys can also experience a build up of soot, dust and dirt. Having this removed can improve air quality and safety both. Chimney cleaning should take place at least once a year ' especially if chimneys get a lot of use during the colder months.

Replace vacuum filters regularly. Follow manufacturer instructions to ensure that vacuum cleaners operate as they should. Filters should be replaced or cleaned as recommended or whenever a build up is noticed. Doing this will help vacuums trap dust and dirt better and will also improve indoor air quality by not allowing particles to escape.

Create a routine for cleaning. Spot cleaning is one thing, but if improving indoor air quality is the plan, deep cleaning needs to be in the routine, as well. When creating a list of deep cleaning chores, don't forget to remove dust from baseboards, drapes and other objects. Keeping up with this can help keep a home cleaner and smelling better. It can also help keep air systems running more smoothly between air duct cleaning service appointments since less dust will be in the environment to get trapped in the duct system.

Consider using air purifiers. Some air purification systems can help improve indoor air quality and freshness. Make sure to read specifications and don't expect a single, small unit to freshen up an entire house.

Ventilate a house occasionally. When the weather permits, consider airing out a house to let fresher air in.

Improving indoor air quality is not as difficult as it sounds. When a regular routine of cleaning and maintenance is established, a big difference can be made.
