How to Clean Toasters? - Articles Surfing

Cleaning the bread toaster is a cumbersome process, especially when accumulated dirt and burned breadcrumbs make a crust in the device. Systematic cleaning of the toaster periodically will be an ideal way of maintaining the appliance in good condition. Regular cleaning and removal of residual crumbs will help to retain the toaster hygienically. But in the midst of busy lifestyle such regular cleaning may not be possible.

Before undertaking a thorough cleaning of the toaster, it should be disconnected from the power line. Allow the toaster to cool down if it remains hot after use. If the condition is not extremely bad, the job of cleaning will be easier. Clean the outsides and accessible places inside with soft cloth dipped in detergent solution. Abrasives should be avoided. If necessary use a mild degreaser with soft scouring pad. Remove the crumb tray from the toaster and wash it with soap and water. Wait till the tray gets dry before reinserting it. Glass cleaner can be used on chrome toasters, if not use diluted dishwasher liquid. Care should be taken not to use chemical cleaners on enameled metals or alloys. Wipe clean after the work is over.

When the appliance is soiled too much with thick crust of residues and dust, the cleaning will be a complex job. In such case it is better to dismantle all the parts carefully. The parts are to be removed without causing damage to them. There will be possibilities of breakage of certain pieces if they are rusty. Remember that the parts are to be reassembled once the cleaning is over. So it is essential to understand the positioning of each part while dismantling the toaster.

One should be equipped with necessary tools and accessories apart from cleaning materials while undertaking a thorough cleaning and overhauling of the toaster. Spanners, screwdrivers and other necessary tools are to be kept ready to use them whenever they are needed. To scrape the hard and stubborn dust, sharpened wood pieces can be used. It will help to avoid scratches on the surface of the appliance. Accumulated crust formed on the edges, corners and joints are to be scraped carefully without leaving scratch marks on the body. Never use materials like steel wool as it may cause scratches.

Appliance will have to be inverted in order to dismantle and reassemble in the course of cleaning. Care should be taken to provide necessary support so that the appliance will not get damaged. Wooden blocks, rags or any spongy material can be used for this purpose. Proper 'hold' is necessary during the cleaning process. The appliance should be held in between wooden logs or frames to make it stable.

The bread toasters are available in different models, sizes, shapes and styles. Manufacturers provide the customers with useful instructions regarding the cleaning and maintenance of the appliance. Such instructions should be strictly followed while using the toasters as well as cleaning or repairing them. It is important that the utility should be kept in hygienic condition not only for its durability but also in the best interests of the family.
