Selling a Home: Easy Ways to Add Curb Appeal - Articles Surfing

When the outside of a home is lacking appeal, passersby will think the interior of the house is also lacking in more ways than one. The way in which a home is cared for on the outside is an indication of how it looks and how it was cared for on the inside, and if your home is for sale it is necessary to make the outside look as impressive as the inside to draw people in. The interior can be ever so beautiful, but if the outside lacks curb appeal give it the punch it needs to make people want to make an appointment to come inside.

Clear Out Leaves and Debris

A yard littered with leaves and debris is definitely not appealing, and passersby will not be impressed. Make sure both the back and front yard are clear of leaves and debris, and ironically, curb appeal also includes the curb. Rake away leaves, sticks, trash, and anything else that has accumulated along the curb and anywhere else on the property. Bushes are also a catchall for fall leaves and anything else that has blown into the yard.

Keep a Well Manicured Lawn

A well manicured lawn is impressive to potential buyers, and it is an indication of how well the property has been maintained. Apply weed and feed to the lawn as often as recommended for your particular area, and follow product label instructions for best results. A lush green lawn is highly attractive, and it is much more impressive than a lawn with bare spots, overgrowth, or a yard filled with crabgrass and weeds.

Trim the Bushes and Eliminate Weeds

Overgrown bushes and weed-filled landscaping is also an eyesore when trying to sell a home. Bushes that were once small can become incredibly overgrown in time, and they must be regularly trimmed to keep them from taking over the landscaping. When attempting to add curb appeal make sure the bushes are trimmed and weeds growing in and amongst flowerbeds and landscaping are removed to make the greatest impression.

Pressure Wash Vinyl Siding

These days vinyl siding is quite popular because it is very low maintenance, but even vinyl siding needs occasional cleaning and care. Just like many other types of siding it becomes dirty and it can even become moldy and stained. If you have vinyl siding, step back and take a look at it from a buyer's point of view. If the siding is stained or dirty, take the time to pressure wash it and restore it to a like-new appearance. It is amazing how great vinyl siding looks once it has been pressure washed.

Add Flowers and Foliage for Color and Charm

For added curb appeal, dress up the exterior of the home with colorful flowers and beautiful foliage. Plant shade-loving flowers in between bushes for added color and appeal, and choose wire baskets lined with moss to fill with hanging flowers and trailing vines. Ferns are ideal when decorating a shaded porch, and they add an elegant touch to any outdoor space.

With a little routine maintenance and a few colorful touches you can add a considerable amount of curb appeal to your home. Potential buyers that drive by will want to see the inside of your home if the outside is attractive and inviting. Take the time to keep up with yard work and maintenance, and add beautiful flowers to the landscape. You will realize it was well worth the effort once people begin making appointments to view the interior of your home.
