Anyone with a toddler or a preschooler knows how much they like to be under your feet, watching your every move while you're in the kitchen cooking. Watching you prepare food and move around your kitchen is probably one of the most fascinating things to children.

A wooden spoon and soup pot may become her very first kitchen toy while she's little. As she gets older it's important to help her imagination grow, and the ever popular play kitchens are a great way for her to explore your world on her level. Although you may not know it, how children play is very important for their development. When they are playing with pretend kitchen toys and appliances there's virtually no limit to their imaginations! They are also learning valuable lessons and having fun at the same time.

When looking for kitchen play sets consider all your options. There are lots of very realistic toys to build your children's imaginations. Pretend play kitchen toys come in sets, as well as separately to build your preschoolers homemaking atmosphere. For example, some of the more hip toys out are wooden refrigerators, ovens, and grills that come in a wide range of colors and d'cor. For girls, you can get sets that are hand carved with sunflowers, or painted with pastel pinks and purples. If you run a home daycare or have little boys in the house, there are separate toys and sets in primary colors and natural wood tones.

When you look beyond the sets and the appliances you can see just how much work and effort is put in to help your son or daughter develop their imaginations and pretend play skills. One of my favorite things to play when I was little was "grocery store". I loved pretending to scan the items and type on the pretend cash register. This is actually very much related to kitchen play sets because all of those food items, dishes, and pots and pans have been developed for use in their kitchens. Children can create meals for you, and have lavish tea parties with their favorite stuffed animals, all without the dangers of being in your grown up kitchen.

It's very important for children to learn at a young age how to pretend and develop their imaginations. One of the easiest ways is to watch you in the kitchen and then apply what they see in their own way. Wooden kitchen toys and appliances are safe and affordable and are readily available. Remember, when your toddler is playing with your wooden spoon and soup pot, that soon he will be ready for his very own kid size kitchen.
