Are You Choosing Lemons Or Lemonade? - Articles SurfingThere's the saying that if Life throws you lemons, make lemonade. Well, I don't know about you, but sometimes in the really challenging moments of life it's a hard concept for me to wrap my brain around. Every experience in our lives is a blessing and a gift, yet there are those times when I wish someone else could be blessed for once. It's in those precious moments that we can learn our greatest lessons. Let me start this story by telling you that I registered for a conference about six weeks ago and couldn't get a room at the conference hotel, so I booked a room at a major chain in the town. I checked in after a two-hour drive, absolutely looking forward to the experiences I was about to have. There was trash in the hallways. The elevator didn't have any ventilation and was like a heat chamber. Then I got to my room. As I walked in, I knew this wasn't for me. It smelled musty and moldy, I could see water stains on the carpet, there was an orange light bulb in the bathroom, a three-quarter closet so my clothes were hanging on the floor, and I couldn't open the sliding door to air the room out because there wasn't a screen door. The toilet paper roller didn't work and there was only one washcloth hanging over the towel bar. I was getting sick to my stomach from the air. When I called the front desk, she said it was a standard room and that all of their rooms were the same. I can only tell you that I lost it. Life">All the calm and peace that I'd had were gone. I became intent on finding another room somewhere - anywhere - else and started to make calls. Every hotel I called was fully booked or closed. Finally, at 11:30 I decided to surrender and stay one night. More importantly, I decided to change my attitude. I went to sleep with my vision of a wonderful room and the perfect experience for this conference. I talked to the Universe and turned this problem over to Divine Source. I affirmed my faith that the perfect hotel room would be provided and that I would be joyful. I was grateful for the room that I knew they were preparing for me, even though I didn't understand why this awful room had come to me to experience. When I woke up in the morning, I had flea bites all over one of my legs. Did I need any more confirmation that this wasn't where I belonged? I picked up the information packet I'd received and saw that I'd written down the number of the conference hotel. The woman in reservations was sympathetic, but told me that she had a two-page waiting list for rooms and couldn't help me. I explained that I had flea bites on my leg - did she have ANY suggestions? She then came back to tell me that she could give me a room Packing my car, I went to check out. Because I'd had such a miserable experience (and the flea bites to prove it!) the manager didn't charge me for my room. What an unexpected surprise! I got to the conference hotel, which had just been renovated, and felt a magical glow. I unpacked my car, moved into my new room and found out that my conference room was right downstairs. From phone call to conference meeting, less than one hour. Easy, effortless, joyful. So, what's the point of all this? Life happens and sometimes it seems to throw us curves. That's part of the adventure. It's what you do in those moments that makes the difference. It's what you believe about those events in life and the actions you take based on those beliefs. Our beliefs and our choices build our life. Believe in yourself and the lovingness of the Universe. Make powerful, positive choices for your life. Don't let anyone or anything hold you back from your vision. Live your life with excitement, joy, love, and the certainty that life is rich and abundant. YOU deserve it!
