A Masai Mara Safari Staying At A Great Kenya Safari Camp - Articles Surfing

Is it a Masai Mara Safari, or a Maasai Mara Safari, the spelling of Masai seems to be different everywhere. Whatever way you spell it, if you want to go to the Masai Mara then one of the best Camps to stay in is undoubtedly the Elephant Pepper Camp.

Elephant Pepper Camp is situated in the Koiyaki Reserve in the northern edge of the Masai Mara at the centre of an area covering over three and a half thousand square kilometers..

With only eight large tents, some double, some twin, with en-suite facilities including flush toilets and the hot bucket style safari showers whenever you want one, and dressing room, this traditional Kenya Safari Camp gives you the proper old fashioned safari camp atmosphere, something not always present in some of the bigger camps and lodges.
Elephant pepper Camp is at an altitude of 5,500 feet, so the nights will be cool after the warm days

The camp is semi permanent and the atmosphere it creates is very much one of Kenya in the 1920's and 30's, which you will really appreciate, and sitting out on your large tented verandah with its small lounge lit by oil lamps creates a really evocative atmosphere.

The main dining area has a help yourself bar, with all drinks except champagne being free, and meals are served family style around a long table. The food is northern Italian cuisine, mixed with some international and local delicacies of the highest quality.

There is also a separate comfortable living area in another part of the two large tents where a fire is lit every evening for the guests to sit around under the incredible African night sky.

What has been created is really a step back into the past, leaving the modern world of television, mobile phones and computers far behind, with no generator, no traffic, no permanent structures to get in the way of seeing wildlife. In fact looking from the camp across the plains you get a first class view of the annual wildebeest migration.

No Masai Mara Safari is complete without close up contact with the animals, and Elephant Pepper Camp takes care of this in a variety of ways.

Firstly as it is a camp, there are no fences so you will see wildlife from your verandah, and you can expect to see elephant, plus giraffe ambling by, and perhaps even cheetah. You know that there are Masai watchmen at night for your safety, and with the wildlife coming that close it is helpful to know this. You will still find the noises of the African bush quite disturbingly close.

Because Elephant Pepper Camp is technically outside the Masai Mara then you can go on Night Game Drives. If you are inside a National Park, then you must be back in camp by dusk. So night drives give you the opportunity to see nocturnal animals.

Game drives during the day are in Land Rovers, and the guides are of the highest quality, very informative. And very personal, so much better than the mini bus operators.

There are guided bush walks with bush breakfasts, and bush sundowners means you can really get the sensation of the vastness of the Masai Mara, and your guides quickly introduce you to a different pace of life that quite frankly is addictive.

You will love Elephant Pepper Camp, You'll love your Masai Mara Safari based here, and this must be one of the best old fashioned Kenya Safari Camps
