Things To Avoid If You Want Powerful Memory - Articles Surfing

As you slowly approach your sixtieth birthday, there is one question that has consumed your thoughts. And you can bet that all those in your age bracket have the same question in their minds too. So, what can you do to stop memory loss?

There have been tests and scientific trials about how one can best maintain memory and prevent the loss of their cognitive skills. While the results of these tests may not be that all-encompassing, few items have been consistently observed for the roles they play in boosting or bringing about the deterioration of your brain. Putting these items into your daily habits can prevent memory loss from happening to you.

Bring Down Bad Cholesterol

Bad cholesterol is largely responsible for clogging your arteries and developing vascular diseases that lead to high blood pressure and heart diseases. But because of vascular congestion, your brain may experience multiple infarctions or dying out of cells due to deprivation of blood. In this regard, researchers have shown that heart ailments and stroke may increase a person's risk of Alzheimer's Disease or vascular dementia characterized by degradation of intellectual functions.

Stop Smoking And Alcohol Abuse

Statistically, people who smoke perform poorly in tests that gauge memory skills; they also lack the thinking abilities that can be readily exhibited by people who do not smoke cigarettes. In another study, heavy drinkers of alcohol are experiencing impairment of their memory abilities, not to mention motor skills.

Banish The Sedentary Life

When it comes to your memory and overall thinking abilities, you must always consider having a healthy flow of oxygen-rich blood into your brain. In this regard, what more can you ask for during regular exercise? All those huffing and puffing enables your system to increase the flow of blood into your brain. You may not realize it, but regular exercise can prevent memory loss or even dementia. So, stop being a couch potato.

Don't Eat Junk Anymore

It has been proven over and over again that eating vegetables can help in inhibiting the dying out of countless neurons in your brain; thereby, helping you get a memory boost even when you are so old that you can not remember how much your first pay check was.

Sure, when you are 65 or older, you become more forgetful and you are forgiven for it; but would you rather be senile than being mentally active? Brain experts and nutritionists have linked vegetables, green-leafy vegetables particularly, with improving cognitive skills in adults at least sixty years of age.

Apart from the greens, good cholesterol found in fatty acids, like Omega 3, can also promote the overall health of your brain. Omega 3 is abundant in fish like salmon and tuna.

Never Wall Yourself In

Even if you are the most intelligent human being on the planet, your cognitive skills and memory abilities can be diminished if you stop interacting with other people. Being content with your lonesome for most of the time, may bring you an increased risk of losing intellectual abilities. Scientists have found that social interaction can diminish stress levels and allow you to learn new things; two aspects that can boost your brain power.

Never Stop Thinking

Think of your brain as a muscle; the more you exercise it, the harder and stronger it gets. In this view, all the basic learning processes that you have used since childhood can actually lend you a big hand in maintaining or improving your mental capacity. Reading books, writing stuff, learning new skills and even playing games can be considered as effective exercises for your brain. These simple processes can lower your chances of suffering from dementia or even mild forgetfulness.
