How To Get The Best From Auto Transport - Articles Surfing

Whilst certain auto transporters follow the rules regarding service to the customer, others do not give priority to customer's needs. Therefore don't be blase about picking an auto transporter, but choose one that has experience and a good name.

A lot of auto transporters will make a lot of effort in their advertising in the Yellow Pages and on the Internet. However, though they may present a good company image in their ads, this is no guarantee that they are a reputable and trustworthy operation. The auto transport industry is not well regulated and the number of rules that need to be adhered to is small. Deregulation of auto transporters began in the 1990s and as a result the majority of auto transporters follow their own state laws as a guide to operating their business. Not surprisingly, not all states are well regulated.

Whilst you can get a good price from many auto transporters due to the fact they are private companies and operate their business without intermediaries, this can also have disadvantages. Auto transporters are rarely flexible: they have their own preferred transport routes, you will have to fit into the schedule of the auto transporter in order that they make a profit. As a result you will need to be flexible as to the date for departure and arrival of your vehicle. Therefore it is a good idea to consult the Terms and Conditions of your auto transporter to understand their policy in this regard.

Large auto transporters are often preferred by people who want their car taken across the country. Since they transport to a wide variety of locations they can often offer the best deals. It is a good idea to query any transporter that says they will transport your auto from door-to-door. Find out if only one trucker will be in charge of your vehicle or whether it will be passed around many times. Once you have understood the process you are in a better position to decide whether you want to use an auto transporter or would rather enlist the help of a relative or friend to transport it for you, offering them a flight there or back as necessary.

Sometimes you can get a genuine door-to-door service from auto transporters where your vehicle goes from one destination to another non-stop. However, this is not the usual practice and the majority of auto-transporter use terminals to unload and reload vehicles onto other trailers that will take your vehicle to its final destination. You can limit the handling of your vehicle by offering to drop your vehicle off at the terminal and to pick it up from the terminal at the other end. This can cut costs and limit any possible damage that could occur from extra handling.
