The Importance of Road Sign Guides - Articles SurfingIn getting ready to drive for the very first time, one needs a lot of lessons to be taken. Some requirements that a student driver will need are application for a license, enrollment in a driving school, road familiarization, traffic rule tests and road ethics. One fundamental element of driving that should never be missed out would is the comprehensive knowledge on road or traffic signs. Every good driver takes a firsthand discipline course in knowing these signs. Every traveler, may he be a passenger or a driver may have noticed along the road side various sign boards that serve important purposes. These road reminders stand as route guides, warning and traffic flow regulator for motorists and pedestrians likewise. As control devices for traffic, signs need full attention, respect and adequate drivers* response. For the beginner's information, traffic signs are positioned on places that engineers have justified through their studies. Oftentimes, these are placed beside or above the highways or streets. If the positioning of the signs is not supported by any visual considerations or expert reasons, these may become destructive rather than effective means of guiding the motorists. When a lot of signs are standing near each other, it could lead to confusion and worsening of traffic flow, plus, fund for public works are not utilized properly. Not only that, it could also lead to misunderstandings of drivers and authorities as well that might lead to more problems and the worst accidents. With the possibility of road confusions, there are different shapes and colors aside from the symbols that are designated and printed on these traffic devices. Shapes are assigned to make the signs easily recognizable and the number of sides speaks how critical the message is. The circle is used for railroad early warning signal, an octagon in exclusively assigned for the stop sign, a crossbuck is used to warn about a railroad crossing ahead, a downward pointed triangle is for the yield sign and a rectangular board is usually assigned to route names and temporary traffic controls. There are also some shapes marking various places such as schools, which are designated with a pentagon shape, a trapezoid for recreational sites and other irregularly shaped signs. On the other hand, signs are not about shapes at all. Colors are also factors included in effective transmittal of messages. Standard background colors like red is used for stop, yield, do not enter and wrong way signs, markers that give you instant warning even from afar. Green is used for guide information, orange for temporary traffic controls, yellow for warning and school signs, brown for recreational sites and blue for emergency evacuation routes. Stating the above mentioned reasons and assigned media, we find the importance of understanding the messages traffic signs represent. In most countries and their respective transportation sectors, there are standard rules being observed and implemented. New and student drivers are all bound to know their signs. Simple as it might seem, details of the signs are important to control discipline on the road.
