Elvis: How To Prepare For An Elvis Impersonators Contest - Articles Surfing

Learn how to sing, dance, move and act like the one and only Elvis the king from an expert or Elvis impersonating!

Elvis the 'King' Presley died on August 16, 1977, and over the past 29 years he has not been forgotten. Every year all over the United States there are regularly held Elvis look alike contests, but none are as big as the one in Las Vegas on the memorial of his death.

I have been a Judge at many different Elvis Impersonator contests and all the time I am approached by people who are interest in breaking into the glamorous life of an Elvis Impersonator. The one thing they all ask is 'what should I do to prepare for an Elvis Impersonators contest'. So I have decided to write down my top 5 tips on pre Elvis impersonator contest preparation tips.

1) Looking Like Elvis:

The first and most important thing is that you look something like Elvis. You can look like thin young Elvis or Fat old Elvis, buy you must look something like him. If you don't look anything like him you will never win.

In most of these Elvis contests and especially in the Las Vegas contest the way you sing is just as important as the way you look. Sometimes the winners of these contests can get work as a professional Elvis impersonator. My tip is practice often. Go to every karaoke place you can find and keep practicing, especially if your goal is to win or make some money doing this.

2) Doing Up Your Hair LikeElvis:

The next thing to do is your hair. Elvis was well known for his different hair styles over the years. I recommend you make sue to spend lots of time on the hair. There are websites on the internet dedicated to Elvis's hair and should be easy to find a style that fits you. There are also many wig shops that carry the full line of Elvis Wigs.

3) Dressing Up Like Elvis:

The third thing is your clothes. Elvis especially in the latter years had a very specific look. He wore nothing but leather jumpsuits with a gem studded cape on stage. You can get away without spending several thousands on your outfit, but if you wan to be the best many of the people who do enter these contests do spend the money.

Another thing you will be judged on and will definitely need to practice is your dancing. Elvis always danced when he sang and you had better also. I can tell you right now that no judge will vote for you if you just stand there even if you were the twin of Elvis. If you are not sure as exactly how Elvis would dance on stage you are lucky. You can go to any video store and rent plenty of movies and he dances in every one and you can search the internet for one of the thousands of video clips of Elvis dancing on stage.

If you take all of these tips and incorporate them into your Elvis persona, you will have a much better chance of winning the contest and reaching your dream of being the world's best Elvis impersonator.
