How To Find Affordable Homeowner's Insurance In Connecticut - Articles Surfing

When shopping for affordable homeowners insurance in Connecticuit there are a few things you should take into consideration. Once you've purchased your home, you expect to spend quite a bit of time in it. However, if you are a military service person, as you are well aware, you may be deployed out of the country, which will take you away from your home for an extended period of time. What happens with your homeowner's insurance when you are oversees?

As a general rule, insurance companies do not like to insure vacant or unoccupied homes. In the eyes of an insurance company, vacant means totally empty of humans and furniture. Unoccupied means void of humans, but the furnishings are still in the home. As a result of their unwillingness to insure vacant/unoccupied home, most policies contain a 'vacancy clause'.

If you are in the military and the likelihood that you may be away from your home for an extended period of time, there is a possibility that after 60 days your home insurance policy may no longer provide coverage. It is very important to discuss this with your insurance agent beforehand. Some companies provide endorsement that will allow for the unoccupancy of your home for an extended period of time beyond the normal 60 days.

Homeowner's policies also provide coverage for your contents (personal property). The coverage normally extends to your personal property taken with you while traveling. However most policies, if not all, have a war exclusion which means they will not provide property coverage for loss caused directly or indirectly from war. That means the personal effects you take with you while you are deployed may not be covered.

Possible solutions may be as simple as having someone house sit for you while you're away or discussing this exposure with your chain of command. These are very real exposures and should be discussed with your insurance agent. Your agent has undoubtedly faced this exposure in the past and may be able to provide an adequate solution.
