Article Surfing Archive5 Important Tips To Sprucing Up Your Old Furniture - Articles SurfingOne of the things that make your house a home is the furniture. Why? Because it speaks volumes about your personality and, more specifically, your taste in home decor. We all know that furniture can be expensive, which is why it may not always be feasible to purchase a new style at the drop of a hat. Therefore, it's important to get creative in how you spruce up your old furniture. In fact, below are five important tips to help get you started: Cover your couch. If your couch needs a little pick-me-up, you can add it with a simple cover. These days, couch covers are available in a variety of solid colors and/or designs to coordinate with almost any decor. All you will need are the measurements of your current couch and a color style in mind when shopping for a new cover. Add an accent. Now that your couch looks brand new with the help of a cover, try adding a little extra pizzaz with accent pillows. It's always nice to have a theme, so consider adding pillows that match the decor or, at least, compliment it nicely. For instance, a beige couch cover can be perfectly accented with black pillows. If your couch cover is dark, try adding some cheerful color with your choice in accent pillows. Tidy up your table. If your dining room table is old or simply in need of a makeover, consider purchasing a solid white or ivory tablecloth. This small investment will take an old dining room and turn it into an elegant space for your family and friends. If you want to add the perfect centerpiece, consider a small vase of silk flowers. This will be ideal for those with allergies, but will also give you the look of real flowers without the expense and maintenance of having to constantly replace them. Caring for your cushions. If your dining room chairs are in need of a style change, the task may be easier than you think. In fact, all that's needed is a piece of fabric that matches your current decor and is cut to fit your chair cushions. You can easily cover your current cushion fabric with the new style by securing it to the underside of the cushion for an entirely new look. Paint it perfect. You can add a new look to any table, dresser, end table or set of drawers with nothing more than a paint brush and some paint. If the item was previously painted and is beginning to chip, consider sanding it down to the original wood and adding a fresh coat of paint. Otherwise, putting new paint atop already chipping paint will result in a poor finish. Be sure to read and follow painting instructions thoroughly and always use in a well-ventilated area or, if possible, even outdoors.
