What Makes A Great Web Business Great? - Articles Surfing

Wouldn't you like to have a successful website, as profitable as the 'Giants' of the Web? Just take a look at Yahoo!, Amazon, Google, eBay, MSN and so many others. You'll notice certain patterns you could follow to succeed.

You hear often that you need a niche to have a successful online business. You also find plenty of 'instant success' ebooks promising you the moon, the stars and a kingdom on the Internet. Nothing happens overnight. The Web giants don't base their success on overnight fixes, but on months of research, constant development, branding, customer care and so on. Therefore: doing business on the Web means constant learning and constant promotion. There are no 'instant' tools and no secret 'tricks' to make you wealthy overnight.

When it comes to online business it is not the 'niche' you really have to focus your efforts on, but the need. People go online to find products and services that answer their needs. This is what the Web giants do too: they answer human needs: at ebay people buy and sell at affordable prices (buyers don't need to go around the world to find a bargain and sellers don't need the 'garage sale' to get rid of items they no longer need), the Search Engines make it easier for the users to find their way throughout the huge network of websites and find the most relevant ones, and so on. To make a long story short, online success is based on both niche and need. To put it simple: find your niche and address its needs.

Once your website addresses a need, you'll want clients to find it. Once again: what do the Web Giants do? Never stop marketing their websites, always optimize their services, provide enough information for all, and so on. At your turn you should follow the same steps, plus a few extra: identify your potential clients and attract them by offering the valuable information they need.

It's not money you really need to create a successful online business: it's passion. If you don't have the guts or the will to dedicate your life to the Web, forget the idea. The Web is growing and changing rapidly. New web technologies are born every day. The Web giants use many different tools to stay alive, that's exactly what you should do: blogs, forums, e-zines, articles, statistics, press releases, giveaways and even customized solutions.

These are patterns you should definitely follow and also you should develop your website after the giants of your industry. This doesn't mean, 'copy their websites', but create a simple, attractive layout with easy navigation, and make sure its content has value. Take Yahoo!: free email accounts, Yahoo! Messenger and so on. This is what Yahoo! does to bring value to the users and persuade the world of to use its services. To satisfy your customers you could offer free samples, free newsletters and ebooks, free software and much more.

No matter what you do, always remember to give people a reason to come back and to remember your products and services. This means: brand your online business, brand your website, brand your giveaways, your emails, newsletters, ebooks and so on. This is the recipe to online success.
