The Million Dollar Question - Articles SurfingIf someone handed you a million dollars of tax-free money right now, how would you spend the next few years of your life? The answer to this question is more important than you might realize. After the obligatory vacation, new house, and new car that you might purchase with your new fortune, how might you spend the rest of your time? In other words, if time and money were not a concern, what would your daily life look like? Most of us would spend more time with our families and loved ones. But after this consideration I believe a million people would spend their time a million different ways. With no need to spend time generating a paycheck, and no deadlines and shifts to worry about, the majority of us would spend our days doing the things that bring us real happiness. Some people would spend hours on end playing music or singing. Others would lose themselves in one book after another, or even return to college for the sheer joy of learning new things. Still others might devote the bulk of their waking time to restoring old automobiles. What would you spend your days and months doing if you never had to worry about time or money again? Don't hold back with your answer; think about what activity or activities would bring you the most happiness if you could commit unlimited time to them. Not only is this a fun and healthy mental exercise, it offers some pretty serious insight about your professional potential. Do you realize the world's most successful and productive people are those individuals who do what they truly love for a living? Think about this for a moment. Most people don't like their job. In fact many people actually hate what they do for a living. I understand what this is like, because I spent years of my life doing menial labor. But I found, much to my delight, that work does not have to be a miserable process. We really can earn a living doing the things we are passionate about if we are willing to think big and put forth some creativity and effort. This article is not about finding the perfect job, however. It's about getting you to think. No matter who you are or what your responsibilities might be, you absolutely can go to work doing something you care deeply about. And the first step is being honest with yourself about what activities make you really happy. Once you know this, step two is to resist the urge to make excuses about why you can't stop working at a job. Don't even take the time to say things like 'I need a secure paycheck' or 'I have a family to feed'. As important as such statements sound they are really nothing more than active self-defeat. The truth is you can find or create a position that allows you to enjoy your work. I did it. My mother did it. Many of my friends have done it. In fact millions of people worldwide have either found their dream jobs or built businesses around their passions. So now that you have answered the million-dollar question and been honest about what you really want to spend your time doing, take the next step and start looking for your dream job or ' better yet ' plan how you will create your own business. The only thing that can stop you are your own limiting beliefs.
