These handy tools allow you to convert inches to miles from any traditional map. Customized map measurers are available that will perform all possible calculations for you. Some personalized map measurers even allow you to program the scales built into the customized map measurer so it reads digital units. How To Select A Map Measurer If you need a basic map measurer, not a personalized map measurer or branded map measurer then you might as well wait for an online shop or retail outlet to offer promotional map measurers because you will save a few dollars. They all basically do the same thing. If you really need a decent digital map measurer than you might write down the exact specs you need so when you are shopping you don't miss anything. When talking to a salesperson it is sometimes hard to remember all the features you need. Some electronic map measurers currently available are often the best option for people looking for a multi-tasking unit. These handy tools allow you to create custom scales that measure inches use an implanted drawing unit. These are for serious map measuring geeks, and they will cost you a bit more, but are highly worth it if that is what you are into. Analog Map Measurers Analog map measurers are the same as mechanical map measurers. It is just a fancier term for a map measurer that isn't digital or analog. So it runs on its own. You can only use it on maps, and you have to use a scale of 63,360 inches to a mile. The map measures in miles ranging for 1:24K scales and up. Most mechanical map measurers are fine for the average Joe or Jane that needs a map measurer for basic measurements or geography. The nice thing about mechanical map measurers is you don't need a battery or solar powered panel to make them work. You can't really ask for more than that. The front of the map measurer has pre-set map scales so you can't really add different ratios in. Most maps however work just fine with analog map measurers. These are sometimes featured promotional map measurers, although not as often as some digital map measurers that are being cleared out for newer versions of the latest electrical pieces. Selecting The Ideal Map Measurer If you are not sure what map measurers will work best for you, ask a few other people what they use. See if you can try out their personalized map measurers and see what they think. Try using a digital, analog and electrical map measurer if you can, because this is the best way to see for yourself how each of these works and which will work best for you. If you plan to use map measurers on a long-term basis you might want to invest in a higher quality customized map measurer right from the start, so you become intimately familiar with it.
