The Pain Of The Psoriasis Patient - Articles SurfingPsoriasis is one of the most difficult diseases people have to deal with, effecting many areas in the body including the scalp, arms, fingers, hands, lags, back, face and the sometimes the bottom of the feet this is a serious disease that can cause significant discomfort and anguish to a psoriasis patient. During the last few years Psoriasis patients are fighting against the lack of awareness to this disease, trying to elevate the understanding of psoriasis and psoriasis patients so that they will receive some kind of recognition from society. The complications and health difficulties of a psoriasis patient are very difficult to live with, and for what seems to many like a skin condition is actually a disease that can have a huge effect not only on physical health but on the mental health as well. The psychological effects can lead to clinical depression and loss of self esteem, there are not many health people that can justifiably judge and criticize a psoriasis patient. Common mostly in adult population this disease almost never appears in childhood or adolescence, the psoriasis disease is considered an immunity system disorder that has significant effect on the skin of the patient. What actually happens is that the immune system is producing the skin cells too quickly, a thing that causes the skin to be replaced every other day, which is much faster than usual, resulting in a reddish and flaky skin, that is often incredibly irritated and itchy, psoriasis patients have to deal with constant irritability and itchiness, which by itself is a mental burden that claims a lot of the damage this disease does. The psychological effects of psoriasis are indeed difficult, in the past many of the psoriasis patients shut themselves out to the outside world, never wanting to go out and expose their obvious disease to their neighbors and friends, in more modern times some psoriasis patients fear the effect of the sun, as this can significantly worsen the psoriasis condition and increase chances of an outbreak, thus refraining from going out at all. Both in the past and the present psoriasis patients are dealt a heavy blow to their sense of self worth, socializing abilities and regular normative everyday life. There are some ways to treat psoriasis although no magic solution exist, there is no complete scientific answer to this disease and patients need to look for their own solutions. In some cases a conventional doctor or a naturopathic doctor (doctor of alternative medicine) will be able to give a diagnosis and prescribe proper treatment. There are products available over the counter for mild cases. Some conventional doctors sometimes prescribe an anti-itch, medicated cr'me that would include vitamin D or vitamin A. Keeping skin moisturized will help the itch and reduce the redness. A naturopathic doctor may prescribe nutritional supplements. The prescription may include a capsule of primrose oil, an enzyme, vitamins A, B, C and D, kelp and zinc. Using lavender in a steam room or sauna will stimulate cell growth. For more severe psoriasis symptoms, there are treatments that will control the immune system and skin development. Herbs also assist the immune system's confusion of overproducing. A healthy diet is suggested to reduce symptoms.
