World Health Organization has included Diazepam as a core medicine in their Essential Drugs List. Diazepam has been prescribed for the last forty years for treating a wide range of health problems. Diazepam is one of the top-selling pharmaceutical in the United States. They are traded in different brand names like Valium, Stesolid, Diazemuls, Bosaurin, Diapam, Seduxen, Antenex, Ducene and Apozepam. Diazepam effects upon the chemicals in the brain that may become throw out of balance and cause anxiety, seizures or muscle spasms. Psychiatrists continue to prescribe diazepam mostly for the short-term relief of anxiety. Benzodiazepines are generally prescribed for short-term treatment. 10 Uses of Diazepam:- The main use of Diazepam is to relieve anxiety, nervousness, tension, panic attacks, and states of agitation. Diazepam used for seizure disorders and muscle spasms and as an adjunctive treatment of different painful muscle conditions. They used to lighten anxiety and calm down muscles during immediate termination of drugs or alcohol. Short-term treatment of insomnia, a sleep disorder characterized by an inability to remain asleep for a reasonable period. Treatment of tetanus, a condition that is characterized by a prolonged contraction of skeletal muscle fibers. Diazepam are sometimes used in the treatment for irritable bowel syndrome. For treating status epilepticus, a life threatening condition in which the brain is in a state of persistent seizure. Using for adjunctive treatment of spastic paralysis or partial loss of movement. As a Remedy that alleviates pain of stiff person syndrome, a rare neurologic disorder of unknown etiology. Diazepam used for the initial management of mania, a severe mental condition characterized by extremely elevated mood with unusual thought patterns. Side Effects Of Diazepam:- Diazepam has certain side effects as in the case of other benzodiazepines. Side effects of Diazepam drugs may be an allergic reaction, closing of gullet, wounds in the gullet or jaws, yellowing of the skin or eyeball, swelling of lips, tongue or face, itching, changes in your vision etc. Other side effects of diazepam reported are sleepiness, wooziness, or inelegance, sadness, sickness and vomiting. The following Precautions should be taken during diazepam treatment to reduce risk: Do not take diazepam, if the patient has multiple sclerosis amd Alzheimer's disease. Avoid Diazepam if the patient is seriously depressed. Avoid this treatment if the age is over 65 years. A detailed medical checkup is necessary before taking Diazepam medication and make sure the patient is free from kidney disease, liver problems, asthma, bronchitis or emphysema. Avoid diazepam, if the patience has shown negative reactions to other benzodiazepines. Do not use diazepam if the patient have had a stroke. If any side effects are found during diazepam treatment, discontinue the medicine immediately and call the physician right away.
