A good starting out position is called the cobra. You perform the cobra by laying on your front, with your head facing forward. Place your hands on either side of your body as you would if you were doing pushups. Then, push with your hands, while keeping your waist on the floor, and lift your upper torso off the ground. Keep your face forward, not up, and make sure that you are stretching your back slowly.
