Is Silver a Natural Antibiotic? - Articles Surfing

Since the start of recorded history, silver containers were used for carrying drinking water, wine, vinegar and other liquids. Liquids stored in silver containers stayed fresher for far longer than if they were stored in any other kind of container. Silver goblets were also used in religious ceremonies to keep the wine fresh and to act as an antiseptic as the goblet was passed from person to person.

Until recently, silver was also used everyday on the dining table. People cooked using silver pans and ate using silver plates, silver knives and silver forks. Modern research has suggested that perhaps minute particles of silver were ingested everyday, which helped to boost immunity. Similarly, in the 18th Century, babies who were fed with a silver spoon were believed to be healthier than those fed with spoons made from other metals.

In the late 19th Century, a German physician, Dr Carl S.F. Crede observed that an increasing number of babies were born with Ophthalmic neonatorum (ON) or neonatal conjunctivitis, often resulting in blindness. Drawing on his knowledge of silver, the Doctor introduced the simple technique of cleaning the eyes of newborn infants with a silver nitrate solution. This intervention alone reduced the number of cases of ON in Crede's maternity hospital from 30-35 per year, to only 1. Crede's prophylaxis was introduced around the world and within a few years the prevalence of infant blindness declined from 10% to 0.3%. (Bulletin of the World Health Organisation, 2001. 79). Up until 1938, when modern antibiotics were introduced, silver in solution (colloidal silver) was used in every way that modern drugs and antibiotics are used today. It was injected, used as a gargle, applied as a douche, taken orally, applied topically and dropped in the eyes.

After the introduction of antibiotics in 1938, the use of silver started to decline. It started to make a comeback in the 1970s as it was recognised that silver leaves tissue cells intact, so it is non-toxic and absolutely safe to use. By contrast, pharmaceutical antibiotics have been known to destroy beneficial enzymes.

Colloidal Silver is an amazing natural alternative to antibiotics. Any single antibiotic has the power to kill perhaps half a dozen different disease organisms. By comparison, colloidal silver has been reported to kill many different microbes, including bacteria, many viruses, fungi and parasites.

Perfect Shape's Colloidal Silver is manufactured using the latest electro-current controlled technology and a 9-stage water purification process. This ensures maximum benefit from the smallest amount of silver and ensures high stability without the need for dark storage or glass bottles.

The presence of colloidal silver near a virus, fungus, bacterium or any other single-celled pathogen can disable its oxygen metabolism enzyme. Within a few minutes, the pathogen suffocates and dies, and is cleared out of the body by the immune, lymphatic and elimination systems. Many people have reported that they have found Perfect Shape's Colloidal Silver to be effective against a whole range of everyday skin complaints and bacterial infections.

It is important to note that Colloidal silver is effective in fighting infections, but it is not a panacea. Self-medication should never be used as a substitute for advice from a health care professional and readers should consult their health care professional if they have any of the above conditions before using colloidal silver.
