Puppy Training: Sitting Like a Champion - Articles SurfingHaving a puppy is such a life changing experience because when you have a puppy it is almost as though you have your very own child. Puppies are very much like children because they depend on you for everything. They need you to eat and they need you to take them out as well as clean up after them. If you compare them to a newborn child or even a child that is a few years old, they require just about the same things. Another important thing that puppies need that children need to is for you to teach them what you know. You have to teach them how to be good people and how to be able to communicate. These same things apply to puppies. When you have a puppy you need to teach it how to be a good dog that is well adjusted and well behaved. This is something that a lot of people don't take seriously because they think that the dog will automatically learn how to do this. This is simply not true. To have a great dog, a lot of the responsibility rests on you the owner, his parent. To teach a dog to try and communicate with you is rather simple in its implementation but also rather difficult in that you need to be consistent when you start doing it. For example, today we will learn how to make a puppy sit. Usually if a puppy wants something, he will try to give you what you want in order for you to give him what he wants. So with that in mind, most people usually want the dog to sit and wait patiently for whatever you are going to give him. This is a form of communication. To teach a puppy how to sit you need to be able to effectively associate the action with some keyword or gesture. Dogs are very intelligent when it comes to this so in just a few short days he should be able to pick it up. The way to do this when you first start is to with a strong voice say the word 'sit' and then try to force him to do the action. That requires that you push his butt to the floor in order to force him to sit. He probably won't understand at first but after a few repetitions it will be something very easy to pick up. As you go along do this with him a few times a day to make sure that he understands what you are trying to teach him. Say your keyword and then if he doesn't do what you want him to do then demonstrate it for him again. Doing this is a great way to force him to understand exactly what you are trying to tell him. Having a puppy is a very rewarding experience because it will give you a sense of pride when your puppy develops and evolves into the grown dog you want him to be.
