Tips For Bathing Your Dog - Articles SurfingThe most convenient way to bath your dog is with a detachable shower head. Although you may think the garden hose would be fine, even on a hot day the water would be too cold. Before you begin always comb or brush your dog out to remove matts and tangles. To reduce the amount of water that enters your dogs ears carefully place cotton balls in each ear, and a small amount of petroleum jelly around your dog's eyes will reduce the harshness of the shampoo. Test the water to make sure it is lukewarm. Soak your dog thoroughly until the water runs clear. Work the dog shampoo from head to tail making sure to clean the orifice area. Rinse and repeat until the water runs clear. Any shampoo left behind will irritate the skin so be sure to rinse thoroughly. Gently squeeze excess water and towel dry. Blow drying is ok as long as you make sure not to hold it to close to the dog and keep the dryer moving constantly. Make sure to keep your dog comfortable at all times. Dogs with long hair should be given a quick brushing. Remember dogs do not have a quick oil replacement system which is needed to keep their skin moist. Owners will tend to over bathe their dogs in an attempt to clear a dandruff problem, which in most cases is the cause of dry skin. Frequent brushing is the best way to keep your dog clean. A clean dog will lead to a healthy dog, and beyond that it leads to a happy dog. Living with a happy and health pet, and that will just lead to happy pet owners, so it all starts with a good bath and frequent brushing to clean your dog clean and happy.
