Washington D.C. Home Of Our National Treasures - Articles Surfing

This time of year our nation's capital is deluged with students from all over the U.S. on extended field trips touring the historic landmarks and attractions.

Washington DC offers year-round inspiring experiences that once you come here and experience the sites and sounds of this wonderful, powerful and historic city, you will never forget this magic place where the residents literally make the world go around, and around, and around. Washington, DC is not only where history is made, it is where it can be explored. The nation's capital is an international playground. The great capital of the United States of America is truly a fascinating city. Washington, DC is a vibrant, accessible and a world-class city from inspiring monuments to monumental arts and culture, and the stimulating, educated and diverse neighborhood communities among us.

Few of the tourists and visitors to Washington DC know of the wonderful, colorful and historic old neighborhoods and historic markers that are located within this modern, international city. Centered on the historic Dupont Memorial Fountain at the intersection of three major avenues (Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Hampshire), and with the lush grass park surrounding it, the Dupont Circle is a perfect location for people watching and meeting or just relaxing and watching what's going on around you almost year-round. Dupont is lined with 18th and 19th century mansions and brick row houses that recall Washington, DC 's historic grandeur. Now occupied by law firms, think tanks and embassies, the Romanesque and Beaux Arts architecture is best observed from the avenues on a leisurely walk. If you are visiting Washington, DC on a warm and sunny day, take the time to throw a Frisbee in the Rock Creek Park commonly referred to as "P Street Beach," just west of the Dupont Circle.

The Dupont Circle and the trendy Adams Morgan and Kalorama neighborhoods offer an eclectic array of cuisine and bars for even the most discriminating taste or beverage sampler. Take a stroll on 17th Street Northwest (especially between P and R Streets) to experience other scenes where great restaurants, chic shops and popular bars are turning this into quite a hot spot. Shopping in nearby Adams Morgan is a must, with its unique specialty stores. Beyond Washington DC's most familiar vistas, the capital city unwinds into a lively urban center. Casual cafes and upscale bistros line the trendy streets of Georgetown, while the downtown district sizzles with a host of new fine restaurants.

There are new attractions, exhibits, hotels and restaurants opening all over the city, and there is a feeling of excitement in the air as new and modern housing opportunities are coming onto the real estate market daily. Add these new developments to the fascinating cultural and historic sites, which visitors of all ages have loved for generations, and you will know why almost 20 million people travel to the nation's capital every year.
