ADD: Remembering To Remember - Articles SurfingThose of us who are blessed with ADD have an uncanny ability to hyperfocus on certain things. We can be tops in our fields of physics, big business, and do well in places that really hold our interest. We can remember anything about things we enjoy, but we aren't very good at remembering the day-to-day. I mean, can you remember the birthdays of everyone in your family? Probably not. Or, how about what size clothes your significant other wears? Worse, how about when you go to the grocery store and remember everything but the main thing you went there to pick up. Then, you have to drive back to the store and AHHHhhhh!!! Doesn't that just drive you nuts? OK... There is a solution that's easy and very ADD-friendly. Buy a small notebook or notepad that you can put in your pocket or purse, and keep it with you at all times. When you empty your pockets at the end of the day, be sure to put it with something you never forget, like your money or your cell phone. Just don't buy a wire version, or it will ruin your clothes. Cloth or thread bound notebooks work much better, but be sure that you keep it close by at all times, even when you're at home. Write everything in it that you dont' want to forget. ADD businesspeople will benefit greatly from doing this. You can write all your headline ideas, or your next big business plan into it as soon as it hits you. If you wait until you get back to your computer, you'll probably forget most of your plan. Keeping a notebook is the first thing writers are taught, and it works well for them. Keeping a notebook can work for people with ADD, too. You'll probably see it work best when you're at the supermarket. Just think... You'll be able to save money because you won't be wasting gas anymore to get the things you forgot. And won't your little girl be happy when you remember that "special" Barbie she wanted for her birthday? Or, when you get your son that XBox game that he's been talking about for weeks? When you get to the store, you'll be able to remember which one it was and it will feel great knowing you made them happy. Now, you just have to remember to buy the notebook, right? OK, go and get a scrap of paper, any scrap will do. Then, write the word "Notebook" on it and put it with your money. Then, when you get to the store, and you're paying for your purchase, you'll see the note and remember. BAM! You're then the owner of your first ADD-friendly notebook and the system will already be working for you. You owe it to yourself to try this. Even when you have ADD memory issues, you'll be applauded for what you remember.
