Car Hire Malaga - Articles SurfingRent a car in Malaga and you'll discover that there's a whole lot more to this city than its airport. From the backdrops that inspired Picasso to the beautiful marina that draws in thousands of tourists every summer, you'll be blown away by the range of stunning attractions that you never knew existed before you hopped in your car, took to the open road and went out exploring. The following is a guide to some of the most popular places worth visiting in Malaga and its neighbouring towns. Malaga Airport Mini Guide: Things To See/Do in Malaga: The vibrant city of Malaga is located approximately 129km to the southeast of Seville and is known as the gateway to Spain's popular Costa del Sol holiday resort region. More famous for its coastline than its colourful city centre, first time visitors to Malaga are always pleasantly surprised by its wealth of attractions and fascinating culture. Malaga's most famous son is Pablo Picasso and visitors to the city will find many galleries displaying his work. The most famous is the 16th century Museum of Fine Arts, which is situated alongside the Cathedral. Picasso's birthplace in Plaza Merced showcases his colourful life and works. Like most Andalusian cities, Malaga has Moorish roots and its past has left an indelible mark on the city centre, especially around the fortress of La Alcazaba, which can now be visited as an archaeological museum. Meanwhile, the Moorish castle, located nearby is now a state hotel. Also well worth a visit is the city's lush botanical garden that is situated on Calle Alameda. Eating Out in Malaga: Eating out in Malaga gives you the chance to sample some of the most delicious seafood available anywhere in Spain. If seafood isn't for you though, you'll be happy to find lots of eateries serving up the best in international cuisine. Prices are pretty reasonable too, even for upmarket restaurants. The best thing about hiring a car is that you can drive around, picking and choosing the perfect restaurant for you. Day Trips/Events in Malaga: Malaga Airport is the ideal pick-up location for rentals not only because of its close proximity to the major resorts, but also because of its convenient location that makes day-tripping as easy as pie. Worthwhile day-trips from the city centre include Granada, a city famous not only for its breath-taking beauty, but also its altitude. The traditionally whitewashed 'pueblos blancos' town of Ronda makes for a superb day excursion too. The pretty city is especially popular with holidaymakers looking to escape the humdrum activities of beachside lounging and drab holiday reads. Malaga hosts a range of exciting events throughout the year. Special calendar highlights include February's Fiesta de Carneval, May's Spanish Film Festival, May's Feria de M'laga and Easter's colourful annual Semana Santa celebrations.
