Article Surfing ArchiveCould Chamomile Be Your Key to a Good Night's Sleep? - Articles SurfingThere was a period in my life where I had a great deal of difficulty falling asleep. In fact, I can remember dreading going to bed because I knew that no matter how tired I was, I would be restless. After I had suffered like this for some time, I eventually talked to my mother who suggested that I try some meditation or relaxation techniques like Yoga as well as have a hot cup of chamomile tea just prior to going to bed. For some time now, many naturalists as well as other people have sworn by chamomile for its soothing, calming effects on people. Like many plants that have dual uses, chamomile has been used for centuries to relieve symptoms associated with anxiety and insomnia. Chamomile is even used as a topical ointment to help treat and sooth minor skin irritations such as bug bites, poison ivy and a host of other things. If you look at the labels of different skin care products, you will often find that chamomile is one of the main ingredients. That being said, chamomile is a great alternative to many of the prescribed sleeping aids that you see doctors giving patients nowadays. It is not addicting or nearly as dangerous. If you have been having trouble falling asleep at night, or staying asleep once you do, but are afraid of the dangerous side effects and addictive potential of some sleep medications then the natural alternative of chamomile may be just what you need for a peaceful night's rest. Chamomile, which is a common flowering plant, has been used since ancient times as a natural sleep aid. Because of its natural ability to relieve anxiety and the symptoms of mild insomnia used as teas, ointments, and oils. When using as a tea it is best to slowly drink a cup about thirty to forty-five minutes before you go to bed to give it time to work properly. You can also use chamomile as aromatherapy and many use pillows or sachets under your pillow to help promote a restful sleep. You can find such products made with just chamomile or often in combination with lavender or rosemary. Chamomile has also been used for a variety of other things including helping to ease an upset stomach and stomach cramps and can be found in a variety of ointments and skin care products for soothing irritations and promoting healthy skin It should be noted that Chamomile is related to ragweed, so use caution if you have ragweed allergies. Chamomile is also is a coumarin, so it should be avoided by anyone taking blood thinners. As with any herbal remedy and if you are taking other medications, be sure to consult a physician before hand. But you may find this a simple solution to getting the rest you need.
