Many people have found that drinking alkaline water seems to re-balance the body and dramatically reduce the symptoms and their dependence on insulin. In a diabetic blood glucose rises above normal levels. The metabolic process converts nutrients into blood sugar to provide energy for our bodies. This glucose is absorbed into our muscles and lean tissues. Our pancreas secretes insulin which is like a key which unlocks the cells in our tissues to receive the blood sugar. In Diabetes Type 1, the pancreas cannot produce enough insulin and the introduction of insulin into the body via injection is required to make up the shortfall. I Diabetes Type 2 the cells become insensitive to insulin and can't absorb the sugar. This backup of sugar in the blood passes to the kidneys and is eliminated as urine. If your blood sugar levels drop too low you will fall into a coma, while sustained high blood sugar levels can damage major organs such as the kidneys and heart. In severe cases you can suffer blindness and possibly amputations of the lower legs and arms if wounds are not able to achieve adequate healing. Here are some startling facts? Diabetes is on the Rise: More than 20 million North Americans have diabetes, with that number expected to rise to 30 million by 2010. The World Health Organization estimated in 2000 that more than 177 million people worldwide have diabetes. By 2025, it will top 300 million. Premature deaths: About 80 per cent of people with diabetes will die as a result of heart disease or stroke. Diabetes is a factor in the deaths of more than 400,000 North Americans each year. Adults with diabetes are twice as likely to die prematurely than are those without diabetes. A Shorter Lifespan: Type 1 Diabetics on average live 10 to 15 years less than non-diabetics. Cost of Health Care: A diabetes sufferer can expect to face health care costs that are 200% to 300% higher than a healthy person with additional costs ranging from $2000 to as much as $16,000 or more per year. Health-care system: By 2010, it's estimated that North American health care costs will top $160 billion a year and, by 2020 will rise above $200 billion a year. Pregnancy: There is another form of Diabetes called Gestational Diabetes. In this form the sufferer doesn't exhibit glucose intolerance, until first onset during pregnancy. It only affects women during pregnancy and usually disappears after pregnancy. You are at risk if you are more than 35years of age, obese, have a history of polycystic ovary syndrome and struggle with excessive hair growth among other factors. The "Canadian" Diabetes Association's 2003 Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Prevention and Management of Diabetes in Canada recommend that all women be screened in the 24th to 28th week of pregnancy using a glucose tolerance test. For those with multiple risk factors, this testing should be done during the first trimester, then again during the second and third trimesters, even if the first test is negative. This is a very serious issue. If you are a diabetic then your very life is at risk! What can you do? Lose some weight and alkalize your body! Many people experience significant relief from diabetic symptoms by consuming 6 to 8 pints of ionized alkaline water daily. You will reduce the acidity of your body and create an environment where it is difficult for disease to thrive. Ordinary tap water can be run through a water ionizer and will produce pure ionized water that is both highly alkaline and rich in negative ions which act as a powerful anti-oxidant to neutralize the hordes of free radicals in our bodies.
