What Is Lasik And Is It Right For You? - Articles SurfingYou hear about it everyday on the television and radio. Advertisements tell you that you will be able to see again without ever wearing glasses or contact lenses again. Just go through the simple procedure known as lasik and you vision problems are forever gone. But what exactly is lasik and is it right for you? This procedure was introduced in 1991 as is defined as LASer-performed with the excimer laser Make sense? It is an acronym for a much longer definition. The procedure is one where the cornea-rather than being surgically removed, reshaped and then reattached-it is sculpted directly on the eye using the excimer laser as a sculpting tool. A very thin flap of the outer layer of the cornea is created using a state-of-the-art microkeratome. This flap is like a hinged clear lid that is gently lifted back and the stroma beneath is exposed. The doctor will sculpts the stroma to correct its shape and the hinged clear flap is then placed back into position and is held in place by the eye's nature suction. This provides a more comfortable process and a shorter recovery time. Wow, this is really technical stuff with a lot of big words that you normally do not hear everyday. But, this procedure is becoming more and more popular with people who do not want to wear glasses or contact lenses. There is a high rate of success with this procedure and people are flocking to have it done. If you think you want to have lasik performed on your eyes, you should check into the procedure. It is not for everyone and there are risks involved. You might want to read medical reports and listen to news reports to see learn about what is happening in this area. Medicine is changing all the time and new medical procedures are being developed and approved by the FDA. It is possible that you considered having eye surgery a few years ago but were told that it would not work for you. It might be worth checking again because the requirements and limitations may have changed since you were last evaluated. If you think you will benefit from lasik surgery, your eye surgeon would be the best person to tell you this. A reputable eye surgeon will not want to take chances if you are not a good candidate and he will be around to take care of you if you have the surgery. Your eyes are very important to you and there is no reason why should every take a chance with them if the doctor does not think that the surgery would be good for you. Take your time and think about whether or not you want to have lasik done on your eyes. You may end up with perfect vision or you may still need glasses or contact lenses. No one procedure is perfect for everyone. So, think about your options and then make your decision.
